On This Day In LGBTQ+ History:
1497: Girolamo Savonarola, a Dominican friar, gives the Ascension Day sermon in which he preaches the suppression of sodomy and the burning of men who are “sodomites.”
1895: The Regina v. Wild trial is depicted on front page of The Illustrated Police News. It shows the drama of Oscar Wilde’s second trial of the year for sodomy.
1971: LGBT participation in antiwar demonstrations in DC (500 participants).
1972: GAA-NY demonstrations at home of district attorney (75-100 participants).
1974: LGBT rally for equal rights on Christopher Street in Greenwich Village, New York (1,000 participants).
1993: Angels in America: Millennium Approaches premieres on Broadway.
1994: First Deaf Lesbian & Gay Awareness Week.
2010: The President of El Salvador issues a decree banning discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.
