On This Day In LGBTQ+ History:
1972: Gay protests (dancing, kissing, hand-holding) at Hilton Hotel in Denver (2-6 participants).
1982: Voters in Lincoln, Nebraska, vote down a gay rights ordinance.
1984: The United Methodist Church votes to ban the ordination and appointment of avowed homosexuals as ministers.
1987: The Washington Post published "The Cautious Closet of the Gay Conservative." The article focused mainly on Terry Dolan.
1990: The film “Longtime Companion” opens to the public in New York City.
1998: Mayor of New York City Rudolph Giuliani proposes legislation that would grant same-sex domestic partners the same rights to which married couples are entitled.
2000: 190 people were arrested at a meeting of United Methodist bishops during an act of civil disobedience.
2001: Fifty-two men are arrested on a floating gay nightclub called the Queen Boat moored on the Nile in Cairo.
2010: Hundreds of veterans from around the country descend on Washington D.C. to lobby Congress on “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell."
