1953: ONE Magazine first published by the Mattachine Society. 

1965: Two LGBT sit-ins and five days of Janus Society leafleting against denials of service to LGBT people at Dewey’s restaurant in Philadelphia (10 participants, 4 arrests).

1970: Lavender Menace zap at the Second Congress to Unite Women in New York (40 participants).

1971: Chicago Gay Alliance march from the University of Chicago to Washington Park to protest the prison system in Chicago.

1971: LGBT participation in antiwar demonstrations in DC (500 participants)

1971: Gay liberationists demonstrate in Paris.

1971: GLF-LA “Scream In” at Primal Institute (40 participants).

1972: Pink Flamingos opens in theaters. 

1973: LGBT zap against Pacific Telephone and Telegraph in San Francisco.

1974: Gay activists march in Porto, Portugal for the first time, demanding an end to the country’s sodomy laws and a repeal of all statutes that discriminate against gays and lesbians, following the overthrow of the long installed Salazar regime.

1974: Studio One Disco opens in West Hollywood, CA.

1975: Maine Legislators decriminalize homosexuality between consenting adults by repealing its sodomy laws.

1975: Reports confirm that Paul Newman is having financing trouble with his attempt to adapt The Front Runner, a 1974 novel by Patricia Nell Warren.

1976: Christopher Street magazine, a gay-oriented magazine published in New York City, debuts.

1977: Wyoming decriminalizes private consensual adult homosexual acts.

1982: The journal Scientific American publishes an ad from the Lesbian and Gay Associated Engineers and Scientists. Science News journal refuses to run the ad.

1984: Advocate Men magazine debuts.

1986: Ann Bancroft becomes the first woman to reach the North Pole by dogsled. 

1989: Members of ACT UP wrap the Texas state capitol in red tape to symbolize their frustration with the state’s bureaucratic machinery.

1991: Three same-sex couples file suit in Hawaii alleging that the state constitution guarantees their right to marry.

2002: A grenade is thrown at home of gay politician Manuel Antonio Velandia in Colombia.

2013: Civil unions becomes legal in Colorado.

2013: Samoa’s Sodomy Crimes Act goes into effect with a sentence of up to five years in prison. “Keeping a place of homosexual resort” is also a crime.

May 1973: Gay Students Association zap of University of Washington psychology class (7 participants).

May 1974: Action Childcare Coalition demonstration at Washington state Capitol building in Olympia over proposed regulations that would prevent gay people from serving as foster parents. 

May 1974: Dignity demonstration at St. Patrick’s Cathedral to protest Catholic Church opposition to local gay rights bill (50 participants). 

May 1974: GAA-NY two-day demonstration and vigil at St. Patrick’s Cathedral to protest Catholic Church opposition to local gay rights legislation (5 participants).

May 1974: GAA-Philadelphia zap to protest anti-LGBT article in Philadelphia Inquirer (13 participants).

May 1975: LGBT strike and weekday demonstrations at Gay Community Services Center in Los Angeles after firing of LGBT workers (16 participants).
